Javier Álvarez is a New York-based Chilean documentary photographer with a BFA in Photography from ARCOS Institue. Álvarez's work focuses on social themes and human relationships within urban displaced groups.

It has been published in Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, France, Italy, Canada, and the United States and exhibited in "Fotolibros Latinoamericanos" (Les Rencontres d'Arles, 2022), "Reminders photography stronghold grant" (Tokyo, 2022), "Predio" (La Verne University, 2020), "Summer Open" (Aperture Foundation, NY - USA. 2020), "Fotoprensa" (Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Cerrillos, 2017-2018), and "El álbum familiar" (Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Valparaíso FIFV, 2012), Antologia Chilena, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Chile. (2012), among others.

He is a VII Academy Alumni, a frequent contributor to the independent journalism platform MIDIANINJA (Brazil), and a full member of Diversify Photo (USA).
