Javier Álvarez is a NY-based, Chilean documentary photographer with a BFA in Photography from ARCOS Arts and Communication Institue. Álvarez's work focuses on social issues and human relationships within urban displaced groups.

Alvarez's work has been published in Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, France, Italy, Canada, and the United States. Recent exhibits are "Fotolibros Latinoamericanos" (Les Rencontres d'Arles, 2022), "Reminders photography stronghold grant" (Tokyo, 2022), "Predio" (La Verne University, 2020), "Summer Open" (Aperture Foundation, NY - USA. 2020), "Fotoprensa" (Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Cerrillos, 2017-2018), and "El álbum familiar" (Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Valparaíso FIFV, 2012), Antologia Chilena, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Chile. (2012), among others.

He is a VII Academy Alumni, a frequent contributor to the independent journalism platform MIDIANINJA (Brazil), and a full Diversify Photo (US) member.
